All written by William Shakespeare and all tragedies.

Of the tragedies, Hamlet, King Lear, Macbeth and Romeo and Juliet are the most respected. While many people think Hamlet is the best of these I prefer King Lear. Of the histories, Julius Caesar, Richard III and Henry V are often cited as his best. I couldn't tell you why, but Julius Caesar did not hold my interest so well as the others. Of the comedies, As You Like It, Twelfth Night, the Merchant of Venice and The Tempest are often cited. I like The Tempest best (and played Caliban in a school production, so I may be biased). Of them all, King Lear is by far my favorite.

Aside from all being written (perportedly) by Wm. Shakespeare, and all being Tragic (Richard III is one of the "History Plays"); they all deal with Political Power and Murder. Julius CAESAR deals with Imperial Rome; (King) Richard III deals with the end of a British Royal Dynasty; Hamlet (Prince of Denmank) deals with fratricide (his father was the king, who was murdered by his brother, Hamlet's uncle, who then ;marries Hamlet's mother); and MacBeth deals with the lust for the seat of power (Thane) in early Scottish higherarchy.
By the way, Caesar is the Roman word for Supreme Ruler, and is the word from which Tsar (Czar) is derived.

They are all too long to not have an interval .

But for some reason thats how they like to do them at Stratford (or at least did). We've stopped going because who wants to sit for about three hours without a toilet break?
