Opinions without facts aren't worth squat! The proper amount of consideration should be given to defense...Most understand BA or OPS , very few understand the importance of range(RF)...over 600 AB the difference between a 300 hitter and a 270 hitter is 18 hits, over 160 games a difference of .1 in RF is equal to taking away 16 hits...

Actually just as far as "all around" third base, Scott Rolen would win out by a very-very thin margin over Freddy Sanchez, but I gave the nod to Sanchez because of his unique ability to also play very good defense at short and second...It's not like I'm being a "homer" here, the Cardinals are my team and I'm a huge fan of Scott Rolen...

Currently, it's a toss-up between David Wright of the Mets and Miguel Cabrera of the Marlins. My personal favorite, however is Aramis Ramirez, of the Cubs. I'm a Cubs fan, so I have to support my players. He's putting a nice season together, but it's too bad that it won't go towards helping the Cubs to the playoffs. This year, anyways.

Definitely David Wright or Miguel Cabrera.

btw, Mike Lowell as Comeback Player of the Year. You are obviously one of those stupid ignorant Sox fans. There is another Sox player who will win that, his name is Jim Thome. Mike Lowell sucks balls, where was he during the 5 game sweep?? Oh yeah watching Big Papi and Manny making out.

David Wright, but miggy is good too. Really it doesnt matter who is either way its the team that gets you to the playoffs. Pretty much if you are playing 3rd base in the Majors youre pretty good. by the way Mike Lowell is in the American League

I hope you understand that most people will just say whoever the 3rd baseman on their fave team is.
My vote would be for Scott Rolen. He's great offensively. Oh, have you seen the plays he's made? Outstanding!

No disrespect to New Yorkers David Wright and Gay-Rod but Mikeeee Lowell is the man defensively and offensively (leads MLB in doubles) Easily comeback player of teh year with all his highlights/webjems.

EdwardJ, it is questionable whether Robinson was the best third baseman of his own era.

Anyway, Rolen is probably the best right now, assuming he is healthy. There are a few good ones, though.
