If you are dead serious about working in Nascar, first you need to figure out what you could or would do for a team. Do you want to be a mechanic, welder, paint and body man, or something else? You could also get an engineering degree. Smart thing to do would be get the engineering degree. One way or the other, you should wind up in school learning more about something. Good math skills always help. There are may different kinds of jobs that need to be done, but you will need some skill and knowledge. Step two is to move to the Mooresville/Charlotte area. The odds of getting hired are a whole lot better if you live here. After all that there is still no guarantee to become employed, but it's all up to you. There are probably some local race teams you could help out in your area, if you live near a track. That's also a good place to start.

My cousin's husband is a welder and a mechanic for a for WoO late model race team in upstate NY. So, I know from him and from being a nascar fan.

First, whatever skill (ie paint, welding etc) you will need to be at the top of your field, they already have a line of people who want to work in nascar.

Second, unless your family has connections in another area with nascar nextel cup teams then you will have to move to mooresville.

Third, regarding an engineering degree. I am 26 now, but at about your age I decided I wanted to be an automotive engineer as one of the other people suggested. I was always reasonably good in math and took the highest level math classes I could take in high school (AP Calculus) but realized that my math skills were just not enough for me to complete. I was always an above average student - I got all A's and B's all through high school and got 1370 on the SAT but I ended up with a C in AP Calculus.

Fourth, money - I have heard through the grapevine that those trade schools advertised on tv like NTI or wyotech actually cost about $15K/year in tuitition maybe I am wrong. But, if I am right, after any scholarship etc you would pay about the same each year to go to a 4 year college, get an engineering degree or even just get any degree. Also, my cousin ended up quitting his job at the WoO team because he was actually able to get a better paying job as a professional construction welder. I don't know what nascar crews actually make for salary but I do know that really good professional mechanics can make up $35K starting out and up to $85K later on.

Nascar Welding Jobs

Just enroll at UNC-Charlette for the engineering degree, or maybe a tech school if what you want to do is welding. Go to DEI, Joe Nemecheck's place or even JR Motorsports and flat out tell them, "Hey, I want to be involved in this sport, it's my passion I'm going to school to get my end done, so is there any way I can get into the business (even if it is starting low like taking out trash or something) that way you at least have your foot in the door.

You have to be missing half your teeth, use broken English and score under 72 on a standardized IQ test. Then God seeks you out for the pit crew.
