Is lazyness genetically inherited? Or is it just a habit that can be broken? (I'm not joking)

This is one definition of laziness: Laziness is the lack of desire to act or work in general or to do an act or work that is expected of the person. In extreme cases, a generalized tendency to do nothing may verge on apathy and be a symptom of depression. What is considered laziness in any given instance, however, varies depending on cultural/societal context and magnitude, but it is generally considered a negative quality, as in sloth (see Seven deadly sins). Laziness can be considered an exaggeration of the natural instinct to do nothing that makes people get healthy rest. Laziness is usually associated with procrastination.

It has been argued that laziness is the source of many innovations that would have stemmed from the will to spare oneself a tiring job.

The expression "intellectual laziness" is frequently used to describe a tendency not to ask questions, and not to scratch too much behind the apparent, applying a kind of mental routine (availability heuristic) or just following the crowd (herd behavior).

In my opinion, depression is what can be inherited not the act of being lazy.

There is a balance between alertness, constant moving, and relaxing, conserving energy. Crocodiles conserve energy by appearing to be logs. They wait for the opportunity to strike. Humans can also wait patiently for the moment of opportunity. Or they can keep moving, squirming. and starve to death before the time is right to strike. It depends on the environment which is correct. Personality genes can be inherited. The social customs are also inherited by learning.

Australian Aborigines learned to survive in a harsh land by conserving energy. They would let files crawl on their faces rather than burn energy moving them. They invented the boomerang so they would not have to retrieve a missed shot. It came back to them.

If a group is in an energy rich environment they can learn to act faster and capture more energy. They can learn faster than Darwinian genetics allows. A habit is a practiced act. They can practice until it is a habit. I knew a good teacher who set up a classroom where students immediately got to work. Hopefully it became a habit for them other times so they did not waste time ever.

I would guess that in part it could be inherited but I think mostly it's inherently trained into a person by the way their family lives. I very definitely think the habit can be broken.

Laziness is a common trait among humans. they tend to not move around much or put forth any more effort than is needed to survive. the dislike of work, which i think is a type of laziness like the type mentioned in your question is socially trained into children since their birth. always yelling at the kid to sit still and watch the teletubbies like a good boy is part of it. cartoons are part of it. soon the kid is lazy, bot hmentally and physically and unable to put forth serious effort to get things done or create art or literature.

Well I think certain personality types are lazier so I think its partially inherited. I know me and my dad fight over who's gonna get off the couch to get ice cream.
