At the college I'm going to next week, pets are prohibited in the dorms, but I'm determined to smuggle in my pet frog by any means necessary. It just doesnt seem right to leave the little bugger behind.

So my question is, how tight is the security when incoming students check into their dorms for the first time? I could put my guy's small aquarium in a cardboard box and sneak him in that way. But is all my stuff likely to get searched at the lobby for any contraband amphibians, or do you pretty much just take your stuff right to your dorm room with no hassle?

It's my first time going to college and I'm curious to know how it works on day 1.

If you keep it in an aquarium you might be able to get away with it. It also depends on your RA. Someone asked my RA about having a lizard they keep in an aquarium and she said she didn't care. If you manage to get it in and your not supposed to have it stay away from anything that would get your room searched.

They won't check your stuff, however, I would still suggest leaving him behind. When you move into the dorms you're basically giving them permission to do random room checks (the RAs do it) and your frog will be discovered. After that, they'll make you send it home or get rid of it immediately. You'll probably have disciplinary action taken and you might have to pay a fine, especially if any damage occurred. Leave the frog at home and don't put him through the stress of moving so many times. Or, look for an apartment where you can have him.

If this is your attitude toward school rules, then don't worry, you won't be there long.

Sooner or later, you will get caught. Its not an if, its a when. Its not the fact you can get your little friend into the dorm, its the fact you will continually have to keep him hidden. Can your roommate be trusted? Can any of your new found friends be trusted? Get someone upset and they will turn you in.

Believe me, the RA and floor staff (I worked as a resident security officer in my dorm for four years) know everything! I knew who had the booze, I knew who had the drugs, I knew who had their girlfriend overnight with them.

Do yourself a favor and leave the frog at home. Visit him on weekends. You have more important things to do than worry about your frog.

No refrigerator? No hotplate? i'd get those if in any respect available. Microwave limits you plenty. i'd stick with fruit, soups, sandwiches, salads, cereals, on the spot issues that you'll warmth in a microwave. once you have not any refrigerator, you is surely not in a position to maintain something spoilable like milk or sandwich meat more effective than in one day.
