I just read where they are really editing the "violent cat and mouse cartoon 'Tom and Jerry'". I have noticed how the older cartoons are being edited, for thier cigarette used, and if they portray a different nationality in a comidic way. Yet they have cartoons that portray witch craft and severe violence with not a critic in sight. What's up with that?
My kiddos watch Tom and Jerry and when they ask about smoking I take the time and sit and talk with them about it, I think the media is blaming too much on the television and not enough on the responibility of the parent.
Leave our Tom and Jerry cartoons alone!!!

I agree. I grew up with Tom and Jerry (among others) and while I did smoke for a number of years, I'm pretty sure I didn't start because I saw it on a cartoon. And where do you draw the line. If Jerry whacks Tom in the face with a shovel, do you edit out all gardening implements? Although I am not a parent, I think it is more than a little insulting the credit that they are giving parents to determine what is best for their children. In fact, the smoking scenes could even be an opportunity for parents to talk to their children about smoking. Just a thought.

So are they also going to do the same with drinking alcohol??
What on earth would Homer Simpson do??
Are they now going to stop smoking in normal programmes too?

I think the whole world is taking Political correctness to the extreme. People are well aware of the dangers of smoking for heavens sake, It is shoved down our throats day in and day out!

Yes, maybe not include it in cartoons made today but leave the old ones alone. They aren't real, children don't see them as real so why treat them as if they were real??

Ooooooooooooh I am getting so angry now I am gonna stop, but you get my point lol.

AMEN!!!

I love the old cartoons!! In hind sight, yes they were a little graphic at times!! But I turned out ok.... ;) My parents encouraged us to watch the old Bugs Bunny and Daffy and ALL of the old ones!! I love them to this day!!

They need to leave the old ones alone and go after these "new cartoons" that are bloodier and more graphic then any of the old ones!!!

I don't get it either. Cartoons are more crude and rude today than ever and they're worried about violence in those cartoons and smoking? give me a break. What about the sex, violence and language in today's cartoons and video games????
