If you are in 'love' with a vehicle...you can technically fix forever. However, the clutch issue aside, Safety issues are the key issues here. If your Frame is rusting, it could break while you are driving down the road, cause an accident, killing somebodys Mom or sister... This alone is reason to send it to the recycling center to be reborn as an I-beam or a sewer pipe!
If you are short on cash...take the 75 bucks from the recycling yard, add some cash and move up to a 12-1500 dollar early 90s pickup. For 1500 you can buy about Anything in a compact pickup from the early 90s that will be LOADS better than what you have, and then you can eventually start saving up to buy a nicer newer truck when you can afford it after you get back 'on your feet' financially.
The normal rule of if the repair costs more than half the value of the vehicle on an old clunker usually applies. However, you have more safety issues here than Money issues. I know a man who had a Frame rust through on his 84 Toyota when it was 15 years old...Nobody died but the ensuing collision was not pretty. Junk it! The Life you save may be MINE!!!

Tough...well it doesn't make sense to throw money into that truck for sure, I mean may be only minor stuff but not the frame or $800 clutch... I'd sell it for any possible money, add some and buy some used car in better condition. If you can get about 4000 or so you can find something like used Toyota Corolla or Honda Civic that is cheap on gas, easy to maintain and would last for 3-4 years. I mean you would save $1000 on gas alone in one year, plus they don't break that much...

if your the same guy wits the starter problem you have a bad ground problem and your starters burn up or hesitate to turn over because too much resistance in the negative part of the starting system too much resistance causes a heavy draw in electrical currant which can burn out electrical parts you didn't mention all the rot your truck had and yes get a new or new used car that is safe and sound road worthy safety is #1 for you and others on the road

Well buddy I think it is time to put this puppy to rest.
If you spend any more money on it to meet the standards you will have to lay out alot, Besides the cluch and the body work to make it safe, at this time (being unimployed) all you will be doing is spending money right now you dont have.
Here is how to figer if its time.
Sit down and figer in all the things you want. The cluch, the labor, the body work, what ever it taskes to get it back to the way YOU want it to be. Then look athe the money. remember it is verry old and if you put that much money in it, how long will it last.
I am looking at everything and I think it is time to stop putting money in it and put this puppy to bed
