Check out the movies from Studio Ghibli. They range from romance to drama to fantasy. I've seen 10 of the below movies and recommend them all.
Castle in the Sky
Grave of the Fireflies
My Neighbor Totoro
Kiki's Delivery Service
Only Yesterday
Porco Rosso
Ocean Waves
Pom Poko
Whisper of the Heart
Princess Mononoke
My Neighbors the Yamadas
Spirited Away
The Cat Returns (a sequel of sorts to Whisper of the Heart)
Howl's Moving Castle

Why not go back to one of the shows that broke ground in anime, and became the basis of the "team" shows that abound.
I'm talking about Gatchaman. ADV have been releasing the 105 episodes of the main series on DVD. It's well worth watching and the animation still holds up well even 30 years later.

Go old school and see Captain Harlock, Rose of Versailles (this is still incredibly huge with Japanese women), Ranma 1/2, Slayers, and Utena.

have you tried watching "boys be"? or if you don't mind sports ones then why not "suzuka" or "eyeshield 21" or if you don't mind reading it, "Yotsuba &!" is a great series. check out movies by studio ghibli, they have some great anime's that are "slice of life"
btw, if you happen to get the chance to try out live action stuff, watch "gokusen", it's a great slice of life drama and very entertaining.
