Yes. It will improve the performance of your computer by 10-15%, maybe as much as 20% depending on how much of the stuff you mentioned you try to do simultaneously.

Yes it will, RAM memory stands for.Random Access Memory...kind of like your short term memory in a human brain. The more RAM you have the more multiple programs that can run at the same time, keeping the computer from slowing down and lagging. Also improves game and video performance. It very easy to install, just figure out what type of motherboard you have and buy the right chips that fit in the open slots. For the time being if you're only using 512MB end some programs running in the bottom right corner, push control+alt+Del and end programs you are not using, that will speed up your computer a little till you get your 1GB ram. I hope that helps you. Good Luck

Additional RAM is almost always a good upgrade up to a point. Just be sure to match the new RAM with what you already have installed. If you mix RAM of different speeds, the system will normally run at the lower speed if at all.
Primarily, it depends on the design limits of the operating system you are using. Windows XP recognizes up to 2GBs of RAM without special tweaking. In most instances when using Windows the added RAM will definitely help cut down on its use of the slower "virtual memory".
However, some software programs are written with RAM limits in mind and you may not see a big change in their operation.

try to be able to detect a 1GB stick. It fairly relies upon on the interface of the RAM.. it will be 184-pin or 2 hundred-pin. basically yank that old stick of RAM out and visit the save to make certain if the pins tournament up the the hot RAM. i might want to bypass for the 1GB stick because it really is an same aspect as 2x512, yet you're saving a DIMM slot for destiny RAM improvements.

You might not see an improvement in internet surfing and TV watching, but you should see an improvement in photo editing. I would say go ahead! It's worth the money!

Yes it sure will. I play Secondlife alot and started out with just 512MB RAM, game was really slow and I lagged alot, so I added another GB and things got alot better, framerate, smoothness etc.

Put simply... yes. RAM helps increase speed, although you have to factor in processor speeds as well.
