Fender Stratocaster

Gibson. More gibson guitars have been played by famous artists than any other brand. Models however would definately be a toss up between the Gibson SG, Les Paul and the Fender Stratocaster.

My guitar man, Steve "The Colonel" Cropper likes the '50's Fender Esquire Classic. He also played the two-pick-up version , the Telecaster, to get that nasty tone from the back pick-up that became part of his trademark style. Steve carries a lot of weight in r&b circles, and is generally regarded as the #2 guitarist in the world, topped only by Jimi Hendrix.

Here's what Booker T. Jones, leader of Booker T. and the M.G's, had to say about The Colonel and his guitar:

" He's very sound-conscious, and he gets a lot of sounds out of a Telecaster without changing any settings — just by using his fingers, his picks, and his amps".

I'm a Gibson man. Always have been. Fenders are alright, but Gibsons look better, better craftsmanship, play better, sound better, in my opinion. They are works of art. I also believe that a band sounds best when one guitar player plays a Gibson and one plays a Fender. I think it gives some diversity and separation between the two guitarists.

My favorite overall brand is Fender, maker of the Stratocaster. I know they're not fancy like Gibsons, but they are cheaper for the same quality US made stuff w/out extra crap (the extras get messed up over time). Strats are great because they sound great, have many tones, are balanced well, and aren't too heavy. Les Pauls are extremely heavy, and while they sound great, it is tiring to play one. Don't count me as a Gibson hater, I love their P90 and humbucker sound, but they are too expensive for what you get.

If money wasn't a factor, Gibson. Don't even BOTHER to question that, they're pure, pure quality, guitars at their best. But it IS a factor, no denying it, so Epiphone. AS for guitars, SG's are nice, Les Pauls are great too, but if I could have any guitar, it'd have to be a Gibson EDS-1275.

I prefer the action of a Gibson, (specifically the SG), but I like the sound of a Fender, (specifically the Strat).
