The US is the best at everything except for reliable cars. Japan wins that category hands down. Toyota is super reliable. Maybe not the most powerful, but that's not what is meant for.

Chevy has some awesome powerful cars, but they're not as reliable as they were in the days of our grandparents.

And as for speed and power - most cars that are winning in the Formula 1 and Nascar runs on Honda engines.

Oh! And for the person who mentioned about foreign card bearing "support our troops" stickers - for one thing supporting troops has nothing to do with supporting American manufacturers.

But even more importantly some foreign cars - Toyota for example is has more parts made in the US than the Ford Mustang does. Toyota Corolla is made in Fullerton, CA.

Japanese cars are more popular because they are more reliable not cause they're "crap". Afterall why would anybody buy crap. The fact that American car manufacturers are shutting downs plants is because they have being making lousy cars for years and finally people have got tired of buying them, when there are better things in the market.

That's the true American way of life. Go for the better option. That's what's so great about this country.

Although I am a "chevy guy", Japanese cars are built very well. Toyotas will cost alot more to maintain but will probibly go longer without problems. Look at it this way. You see tons of 1988-1995 Toyotas, Hondas and Nissans on the road that are in good condition. How many GM, Ford and Chryslers do you see other than trucks that are over 10 years old. Not including classic cars.

It all comes down to taste. If you like Japanese reliability and performance and residual value go with them... Where else can you get 200 HP in a 4 cylinder engine... Gm makes some great cars. The Cadilac, Corvette, all their SUV's and trucks... But the Malibu, Impala, Monte Carlo etc... are esentialy designed to be like Japanese cars only at a lower cost to the consumer, but with that lower cost comes lower quality.

Heavy Chevy ,,baseball , apple pie ,, and Chevrolet ... American made , by An American man ....... my husband has worked for GMC for 30 years and will be retiring in September before the plant shuts down because of all the scrap being brought into this country . have you ever noticed the foreign cars that are driving around with stickers that say WE SUPPORT OUR TROOPS ! Kinda redundant , don't you think ?

People buy Toyota's and Honda's because they last longer and have generally fewer problems than American cars. It seems only Chrysler is getting better while GM and Ford are getting worse.

Just a quick note on where Toyota manufactures many vehicles:
______________________________________________
Toyota currently operates 12 manufacturing plants in North America and will open two additional facilities in the future; Toyota Motor Manufacturing, Texas in San Antonio, Texas in late 2006 and Toyota Motor Manufacturing Canada's second plant in Woodstock, Ontario in 2008.
______________________________________________

I still like to buy North American - sorry, my dad hooked me on Chrysler - but the foreign companies are starting to create jobs in North America.

God Bless America and Japan !!!

Wow. Way to represent America there pal.

Chevys are just plain awful.

They're put together with plastic and glue.

And theres a reason why GM is in the crapper right now, and it's not because they make exceptional cars.
