I think they should be allowed to be married by the state. But I don't think you can force a church to go against their beliefs.
People can't say that gay and lesbian unions would make a mockery of marriage. I think that Britney Spears, and Carmen Elektra is doing a good job of the mockery of marriage themselves.
I think that we need to open up people's minds in this closed minded society.

There sure are a lot of judgmental people in this world! Who cares what two (or more) consenting adults do in the privacy of their bedroom (or wherever)? People are so concerned with what others are doing because they don't want to deal with their own issues...What is "normal" anyway? Who are all these earthlings that think different is bad? God (or whoever, whatever) made us different for a reason....if we were all the same, our gene pool would have been wiped out long ago for being so shallow. Any consenting adult should be able to get married to whomever they want.. Marriage is just a man-made institution anyway...who cares if the social norm accepts you or not? Love who you want and be responsible about it!

Yes, the state should recognize this marriage. It's their personal business. If anyone should go get mental help, it's people asking stupid questions on Yahoo answers...

What's normal? In some cultures burping loudly after a meal is considered a high compliment.Forget normal.....
If a gay couple find hapiness together good for them!
Should the state recognize homosexual unions? Sure, but not under the title of "marriage".Two same sex partners making a commitment to one another is NOT marriage.THAT is reserved,by definition, for a man and a woman.
Give them a legal union with all the same rights and responsibilities, but give it another name.
If they need mental help,it's because they have issues that are only peripherally related to their sexuality, such as fear of ridicule,or not wanting to disappoint or embarass their family and friends. Most hang-ups that homosexuals have are because of prejudice and self denial.

No they don't need mental help but they need to realize that being gay is not normal and society doesn't have to accept it just because it's what they choose. They're not crazy. They just have deviant sexual preferences. I don't agree with states recognizing gay marriages but if 2 gay people want to spend their life together...more power to them. Just don't kiss and stuff in public because I don't want my children seeing that. Maybe I'm wrong but that's how I feel.

Let the gays get married. I don't see what is so wrong with it. The state should get mental help if they refuse.

Human beings have an unbelievable ability to love things, to feel things, and except whatever reality that suites there purpose to live. Its not that there mental, as much as society has allowed itself to loss its purpose of showing us how we should live a "natural" life. Doesn't make it unnaturally but it is a sort of perversion of our natural ablities that can't be changed it is part of an individual that no person outside that individual can touch, it is a part of our society their is nothing that can be done to change it. Theres no way that anyone who was gay or lesbian would change any faster then us heterals its simply a part of what reality humanity has made for itself. No use in hating it or changing it, were in a place now where it can be except and why not it is love!

totally normal to me. What is the problem here? does this concern you ? Are you wanting to marry a person of the same sex? IF so, then it should concern you, as Gays are discriminated against with tax laws, adoption laws, inheritance laws, yet they pay more taxes than anyone else...what kind of set up do they get in return..they cost the taxpayer nothing for schools, yet they contribute more in taxes than their straight counter parts...It would seem to me that straights should be thankful for relieving them of the tax burdens. Mental Help? Are you in the dark ages? come now, you can surely do better than this...I would certainly hope so.

there is nothing wrong with being gay, it's not a mental problem. Just like we are heterosexual and can't choose our sexuality, gay people are gay, not by choice. Who would want to choose to be gay? I don't understand why you making it a mental problem, you have issues that you need to resolve. Maybe you need mental help.
