it could possibly be the drive not reading it correctly... how outdated is the drive?

The cd could have anti-piracy protection which prevents it from showing up on a pc, or its ur drive it hapenes sometimes.

Maybe the CD drive needs cleaned, maybe it is broken...maybe AutoStart is disabled.
Have you tried to open your media player to see if it will play manually?
