I have a 20 week old, and for the past month he has not been sleeping soundly, he seems restless, but goes back to sleep if I give him back the pacifier. But it seems like I am up all night doing it, he used to sleep so well. Also he is wanting to eat around 4:30-5 am again, and most of the time he goes back to sleep, but why is he starting to need a feeding again before getting up at 7 am, he usually goes down by 9-9:30 pm. I am thinking, maybe teeth???? Has anyone else gone through this, am I ever going to get a full nights sleep again before he turns 10? LOL!

Some babies just take longer.

Things to try:

1) Give him his nightly bath, and feed him a bottle of milk/formula. Then lay him in his crib--awake. The first time you try this, let him cry for 10 minutes. After that, go in for a few minutes and reassure him--DO NOT PICK HIM UP. Wait 5 minutes, and repeat the process until he's asleep. For the rest of the week increase the time you wait. When he wakes up, he knows where he fell asleep.

2) Babies wake up. We always let our baby cry for 5-10 minutes before going in. If it's a nightmare, we go in, pick him up, and reassure him. However, if it's not a nightmare usually he goes to sleep on his own. Do you wake up in the middle of night? So does your son.

3) If he is teething, he'll be drooling a LOT. If that is the case, you can try Baby Orajel. Did the best for us!

Doctors always say that they will get on a schedule but what they don't tell you is that sometimes the baby will change the schedule on you. If he is really fussy and doesn't want to eat then consider it to be teething because most of the time that's the signs. Also fever and diarrhea are good signs also. Maybe you should consider feeding him more on one feeding or cereal in the bottle. I know doctors don't advise that but its the first step to a good nights rest. About a spoonful of the apple or banana flavored cereal and you stir it in the bottle. They love it and it sticks to their ribs. All four of mine ate it at that age. Good Luck!

I have a 21 week old and she used to wake up often during the night while I was breastfeeding and formula feeeding. My pediatrician recomended that I feed her baby cereal and then give her formula before her bedtime so she'd sleep longer cause she'd have a full belly. It worked. She lets me sleep from 12 to 5 and during the morning I breastfeed and get to sleep even longer! Goodluck

We didn't get a full night's sleep until our son was ten months old. Now, at 2 and a half, he's having sleep problems again, either bad dreams, or waking up too early, or having trouble going to sleep. It's not unusual for them to have a problem, resolve it, and move onto something else.

When I had my son, he was up EVERY hour. It was horrible. I talked to a few doctors and they told me to mix some rice cereal with breast milk. If you are bottle feeding, they have rice fortified formula. It is thicker and more filling. I started my boy on cereal and soft table food at four months. Some children just need to eat more. When I did those things, he started sleeping through the night. 9pm to 6am, it was great.

It could be that he is not getting enough to eat during the day....if he is on a 6 oz. bottle, bump it up to 8, and if he is on 4 oz., bump it up to 6...maybe try some solids on him...like cereal before bed...but not in his bottle and use plain rice cereal, not the mixed stuff...if it doesn't change anything, put in a call to the doctor...he may have some other suggestions.

I'd say hands down teething, but I could be wrong. My son hasn't hit that stage yet, but the little girl I sit for has been there twice. Try putting his pacy in the fridge so it's nice and cool for him to have. Baby orajel works wonders too. Hang in there.

If he is suddenly wanting to eat again, I am guessing he might be going through a growth spurt.
