First of all let me say this, I am an African American woman, and know how it is to live from paycheck to paycheck, and whenever I go to a restaurant, I DO tip and sometimes I call out on bad tips as well; Now the person who asked this is generalizing a whole race of folks when actually you shouldn't do that; As to the lady who said that well that is what folks want to do, to stay in jobs where they cannot earn more, well, to me that don't sound right at all; I make a bit above minimum wage right now; I went to college, yet still I live in an area where jobs are there but not as plentiful; so now because a person try their best to earn what they can, they should be blamed for being in that position? wouldn't it be better to just have a job than to have no job at all?whatever happened to crawling before you walked? that reminds me of Barbara Bush speaking about the Katrina survivors that living in the Astrodome in Houston was the best that they could do; well it may not be the best but for the moment, it was the best for right then. this is so sad because you have folks in this country and the ranges go so far that a lot of folks have no concept of being homeless or going from paycheck to paycheck; Personally, I don't like these generalized questions.

Not all black people are bad tippers. Every race can be bad tippers. As far as myself, I tip well if the service is well. If the service sucks then that tipper won' t get a good tip. Why should I pay for service that wasn't good??

Your question sounds similar to "Why are black people not as smart as the rest of us"? Your conception is based on prejudice, rather than on any informed opinion.
And the answer bubbles gave is really a shame. A person chooses to wait tables knowing that there are two components to take home pay: a low salary AND supplementary tips. Tipping is an integral part of the payment scheme in the U.S. Anybody who chooses to reduce the tip for any reason other than poor service is nothing more than a cheat.

I'm assuming you are ignorant or just plain racist. All does not exist. I am black and I tip very well. My girlfriend (who is black) just went out with a White guy who thought $2.00 on a bill that was $58.00 was the appropriate tip!

Why should one give tip at all.
Don't you have a salary from the place there you are working?
Tipping system is a form of slavery, isn't it?

i don't think all black people tip bad. but i can say that, in my case, i fail to tip because a server came into the job KNOWING that they were making next to nothing. why should i give you more money because you aren't making much and CHOSE to do so.
