The reason why Kansas City (the bigger one) is in Missouri is because it was founded at a time when Missouri was a state and Kansas was just a territory. Kansas City was the gateway to the Kansas territory.

Kansas City is actually in Kansas, or at least half of it anyway. It spans the state line of Kansas and Missouri, so in essence it's the same city.

It's been a while, but as I remember, Kansas City is on the border, there is a little one in Kansas and the big KC is in Missouri.
You could start a war and annex it if it bothers you that much...

It is. Actually, there are two Kansas Citys, one in Missouri, and the other across the border in Kansas.

it is a divided city half in missouri half in kansas just like augusta georgia and north augusta south carolina.
