There are a number of possible causes and not enough space here to list them all, plus you have provided limited information on the vehicle.
Some obvious things to check....
Ignition Timing
Fuel Filter and fuel pressure
Plugged exhaust or catalytic converter
If your car is equipped with a carburetor, the jets could be plugged
Has the car got a lot of miles on it? It could be a worn timing chain or timing belt.

It may be the transmission. Or the fuel pump. Take it to the shop and find out for sure.

Could be dirty fuel injectors or fuel filter. You might try putting a cleaner in your gas tank. I use Lucas brand and it's worked real well for me.
