Are people born in Egypt considered Africans or middle eastern?

Reason why I ask Egypt is attatched is part of the continent of Africa. If they come to the US are they african americans?

African Americans are a " protected class" by US employmentlaw" so are women, disabled and those over 40 years old. this applies to workplace discrimination. e.g. if five people in wheel chairs apply for a job with equal qualifications as a white guy, then the wheel chair people don't get the job, then they have a good chance to file and win a discriminationcase. Middle eastern people are not a protected class, so fyi if you are egyption,put down african american even if your skin is whitte so you can get this benifit, that is the reason for my question.

I live in Egypt now and from what I understand they say they are Egyptian or Arab. And those in America(my husband at the moment) calls himself an Egyptian American. But he has to go by white racially because there is no Arab as an option and he is not A/A in their eyes as and A/A is black.

Forgive me if I'm wrong, but, as far as I know, only African-Americans are black people born on American soil, descendents of Africans brought to America as slaves.
Egyptians are Africans, because Egypt is situated in North Africa. Also they're Middleeasterners, because those parts of Africa make a part of a intercontinental region called Middle East.

We are considered both African and Middle Eastern. I don't know what will the Americans call us, but I'm sure not African-American coz we are not black.
