Lets imagine this current affair develops into a court battle (I sincerely hope it does) and the judge asks for a definition, what would Darryl Hairs excuse be?
My understanding is that the ball when new is given to the bowling team and they are not allowed to alter anything from its natural state. It will hit the bat and become mis-shapen, roll on the grass and gather dirt and moisture, hit the edge of the bat and the advertising hoardings and acquire dents and nicks etc..
So then every bowler in the world who rubs the shine off the ball on their trousers, and puts on sweat and saliva and rubs it again, is ball tampering.
So the argument is about degrees of tampering, but I believe a court would accept that any artificial attempt to change the state of the ball is tampering. No doubt the supporters of racist buffoon Hair will have millions of excuses, what does everyone think?

they can rub and shine it and apply sweat on it according to the rules rubbing onthe ground or any other method to change the condition of the ball is tempering,they can also apply towel to dry the ball by rule

bal is only tempered in cricket where there is a bloody white umpire standing against pakistani team!! they did it 2 wasim n waqar....both were at thier peak,..aaqib was bowling with the same ball..but he didnt produce the same results...y? just coz he wasnt as talented as wasim waqar!! these bloody whites r just jealous of asianas having command in rverse swing

whatever pakistan does with the ball is "ball tempering". all pakistani bowlers do it. waqar younis, wasim akram, shoaib akhtar, shabbir ahmad, mohammad sami .................... the list is long. even afridi has admitted that a ball can't reverse swing without tampering it. so all pakistanis r considered as the sultans of reverse swing , so all of them r ball tamperers.
so definition of ball temperaring is pakistan=ball tampering.
