I'm not saying athlete, because it is debatable how athletic golf actually is, but just as a pure competitor, a winner.

Isn't it time to start mentioning his name with the likes of Jordan, Montana, and Gretzky?

What he has achieved at the age of 30 would put him in the annals of greatest competitors if he quit today. He is quite simply amazing, and I feel stupid trying to come up with adjectives to describe what he does. Jordan, Gretzky and Montana were all superlative in their respective sports, but they played team games and owe some of their status to the teams that surrounded them - though without a doubt these three were the staws that stirred the drinks, the key cogs in their respective machines.

Tiger Woods competes by himself, against the courses that he plays, and displays such a wizardry, such imagination and such pure talent that you almost have to pity the other mortals trying to win the same events that he is. His ability to change his game in the middle of a season, sometimes in the middle of a tournament or round is positively mind blowing. He is a joy to watch, and a pure competitor and one of the most successful competitors in any sport, ever. He may be the best ever, at any endeavor, and by the time he is done, he will be the measure of all who come after him.
