I have taken five home pregnancy tests (am 5 days late) using two different brands (First Response and CVS store brand). Each time I get two pink lines (one is very faint) within one minute. but then I just read that if you have an ovarian cyst it can cause invalid results. I was diagnosed with an ovarian cyst a few years ago and as far as I know, I still have it. Am I pregnant? Has anyone else gotten false results due to an ovarian cyst?
I can't get into the Dr. for several days. Please HELP!

The update: just went to doctor, she did blood test, will get initial results on Thursday 8/24. IF it shows positive for hcg, she will look at the level, and see if its what it should be for someone a few weeks preg. In one week after that, she will take another blood test to see if it ithe hcg level is rising very fast. Only then will she know if I am preg, she said.

Go to the health dept and take a pregnancy test. I've had ovarian cysts before too, but my pregnancy test wasn't a false positive. However, I was only a week late, and one of my pink lines was faint. But I was still pregnant.
If it's possible you may be pregnant, and you have any symptoms, then you probably are.

A faint line means that there is HcG is your system, but your level could still be low.
The only way a woman has HcG in her system is if she is pregnant (a man does when he has testicular cancer). I've had ovarian cysts all my life and an ovarian cyst does not produce HcG....or if she is on clomid or some other fertility medication.
HcG is the hormone your body produces during pregnancy, the level rises with each day.
Chances are the same cyst you had a few years ago is not there. If it had been in there that long it would be growing and giving you horrible pain.
If you're pregnant you might have an ovarian cyst too. That is very common for the ovary that released the egg to form a cyst until like week 12. I had one with both my pregnancies.
By the way.....which line is lighter.....is it the test line or the result line?
You should call your doctor and tell them you want to be referred for a blood test even if you can't see the doctor for a few days. you can do that first while you wait for your appointment.

Hmm...an ovarian cyst should either disappear later during pregnancy or it should be removed with surgery after the baby is born. It shouldn't still exist inside of you. You may need to talk to a doctor about that. I found out that I have an ovarian cyst after I was two months pregnant. After four months, the ultrasound doctor said I have a dermoid cyst, which needs to be removed after the baby comes out. I'm currently 7 months pregnant.
A faint line could mean that you did not provide enough urine to the test or that the test is defective. You've probably took the pregnancy tests too early. Usually people take the test after their expected period date. Since you took five tests, I'm assuming that you took these tests before and after your expected period date. I tried using "E.P.T" and it was negative, so I switched to another brand, I believe it was "Clear Blue" and I was tested positive. At that time, I already had the ovarian cyst. The doctor said the ovarian cyst was caused by pregnancy. The best thing to do is see a doctor.

I had a very faint almost not even there line. When I called my doc they said I was either not pregnant, or it was too early to get a accurate reading. I waited a week and did a digital home pregnancy test. It comes out with words not pregnant or pregnant so no guessing about faint lines. For me I was pregnant it was just really early. So wait a couple days and try again.

My lines were faint on my first baby and I have cysts on my ovaries. It is detecting the right hormone! Even if you can't get into your Dr. for several days call and ask to come in for a pregnancy test. Most OB/Gyn clinics have opportunities for people to come in and get tested before they go through a Dr. appt.

You are pregnant, thats funny I did the same thing you did, I took 5 tests, cvs brand, ept, and first response. All with a very VERY faint line. If they all come back that way then you are definatly. The doctor told me that just means that Im not very far along yet.
CONGRADULATIONS HUN!

Yes, your pregnant. And no, ovarian cysts do not cause false positives. I have polycystic ovaries and never had a false positive. Congratulations.

Can you get an appointment at a Planned Parenthood? Do you have one close? You need to get a definitive answer. There are many things that can cause a false negative.

from my experience it usually means the test is positive, you are pregnant happened to me, very faint = positive..those tests usually will give a false negative, due to not enough hormone in the urine..it very rarely gives a false positive..call your dr. and they'll most likely agree its positive..congrats..good luck!
