Hello, In my Minneapolis MN area St.Thomas University combines a psychologist, a social worker and a lawyer to help their low income clients by addressing many of the combined stresses that the clients have to wrestle. The program uses a very forgiving sliding-scale fee. Chicago has some great schools, perhaps they do the same. It may be hard to pick up the phone...ask a friend to help get you on the road to recovery.
First Call for Help support lines also have resources for what you need. You have a very useful attitude, you will find what you need.

try going to a school, sometimes they have students who are getting a degree in counseling, and they are supervised by a professional, but they charge a lot less. I know someone who did this at Pace University in NYC, I think they charged her $30 a session

I would be happy to chat on in the internet with you if you feel comfortable enough to talk to someone overseas who is a nurse and used to confidentiality clauses.

Contact your local mental health association. Pretty much any community mental health agency has a sliding fee scale.

Hey, God is always there for you, and always listening. He doesn't charge either.
I'm serious, talk to him, and if yous till need help, then go looking for a shrink, it'll save you money if you have enough faith.

Religious institutions such as Christian Counseling centers at churches provide counseling. And you can donate as much as you can afford to help their cause.

If you have insurance all you have to pay is your co-pay. Most insurances cover mental health.
