You can generally tell if you are having fraternal twins very early, like six weeks or so because they will see two gestational sacs. If they are identical twins, they could probably tell by 8 or ten weeks when they can see the baby(ies) in the sac.
If twins run in your family, they must be fraternal because only fraternal twins are passed genetically, and only on the maternal side.

You can usually tell pretty soon, because you will be huge, but if in the ultrasound one baby is behind the other, it is possible, though very very rare, to not know at all. I ahd twins and I was the size of a mountain top. You'll have an inkling, reguardless of what the doctors say.

By the 19th week, you can take an ultrasound test. The doctor can tell you whether you're having twins, a boy or a girl.

I'd say try an u/s after 13w, sometimes one of the twin doesn't survive. Also, the blood work should tell you before that.

I think around 12 weeks or so, you'll probably have an ultrasound. He'll be able to tell then.

They can do an ultrasound at any point, if they aren't identical, there will be two obviously seperate egg sacs. If they're identical, you should be able to see two little embryos.
