It is a little tough to be accepted by both races. Black people dont think that I am black enough and they think that I am stuck up or something simply because I am lighter and Mexican people automatically think that I dont speak spanish or that I am full black. What can I do to better fit in, thisd will probably be tough right. Yet both races always tell me that I am so pretty and things like that but they dont fully accept me,it is weird. I grew up with my Mexican side of my family and I am guessing that I behave that way. I am always being judged saying that I dont talk like a black person, I dont know how a black person should talk. ...

You must be beautiful! I bet they're not wrong about that...Anyway, I don't know where you live, but I'm from Lafayette in South Louisiana, and because there is so much culture where I lived, there was not much issue with skin color. And there aren't very many mexicans there. So when you do speak spanish, people love it. I've recently learned that it can be better to explore outside of your culture. You can learn many new things, and in some places you will be more accepted than someone who lives there. I'm planning on moving to China soon, and my friend tells me that in the town I'm going to, I will be extremely welcome, because I have a "kind face" and I'm not too tall so I won't scare anyone who has never seen an American. But here, my face sometimes either makes people think I'm angry and scary or I just look funny when I try to smile. It's strange that I can go 10 thousand miles away by myself and still be more familiar to those around me...

Anyway, what I'm trying to say is that in Lafayette, I had alot of friends who were of mixed races, Creoles and Mullatos(which I think you would be) and we never thought of them as different, except that they were always so beautiful. They were just...friends. So maybe you should try exploring a different place. I don't know how old you are or where you are in life, but this would probably help, or at least distract you from your worries if nothing else. Good luck!

I think you should just be yourself and continue on how you are. Them saying that you do not talk like a black person is them insinuating that you speak like you have had more than a third grade education- I know- and yes I am black. I get told that to but if that means I do not talk like I am straight from the gutter then I am cool with that. My parents sent me to school to get an education and I am proud to speak like I am an educated individual. I think that you should embrace both parts of your heritage fully and those that are truly your friends will accept you as well. You are who you are and you can not change that ever so don't be ashamed or TRY to fit in. Let THEM fit in with you- just be yourself girl. You'll be alright.

Damn Kid, you're stuck between a rock and a hard spot.

OK, this is what you need to do- develop your sense of humor, smile a WHOLE lot, and try to observe and understand BOTH cultures. Try to be around good role models and people of BOTH cultures.

At the risk of making you angry- I was taught a dumb racist joke as a kid (This was 40 years ago ok?)

Why don't blacks and mexicans marry? Their kids would be too lazy to steal.

Now that joke plays on the stereotypes of both cultures in 2 sentences. Is it morally right? No, its not- its pretty disgusting in fact.

However, right or wrong, its what people PERCIEVE. Remember- PERCEPTION IS REALITY.

What you have to do, is literally change the PERCEPTION of those people you encounter in such a positive way that you overcome their colorblind stupidness.

I wish you the very best of luck

Yes, it's tough being of two cultures, but you have to be yourself. Which one makes YOU more comfortable? If neither, then go your own way to you feel that something else seems right. Stop worrying about what others think.

I would say try and please all the people around you and follow everything they say. Start looking and talking the way that will get you accepted by people. Try and fit in as much as you possibly can even if it means not being yourself. ?!!? What did you think the answer was going to be? Hello!

Just be you and accept yourself for who you are. Look at tiger woods, he seems to be doing just fine as a mixed race person.

Ugh. Just be yourself. I don't know why people cannot accept others as just HUMAN, why knit pick about ethnicity's. I am sure you are gorgeous and hopefully someday soon others around you will just see that and that you are a good person.
