I know there are lots of different ways to have one and some hurt and some don't.
I had one when I was 16 which was actually 7 years ago this month wow how time flies. I remember it hurt really really bad I felt like they were ripping my insides out it was horrible the entire thing hurt. I had the suction one it was done when I was at 8 1\2 weeks I didn't have any anasthesia or anything I was wide awake through the entire thing all they told me was to hold my breath but it hurt so bad I couldn't do it. After I was sad just because I couldn't believe my life had come to that 16 and having an abortion. It was definetly the best choice for me because I was just not ready to be anyones mother and I might never be ready but I'm getting to live my life the way I wanted to live it. Maybe that's selfish but that's ok because I'm doing it my way. No one can tell you what to do and I will never forget that experience I just hope one day people will stop judging me and others like me for the choices we had or chose to make.

How many times will you post this question? I'll take the 2 pts and cut and paste, thanks.
No, I have not had one lately. But I have had one before and know people who did. It was a simple suction abortion, I had it done twice at different times in my life, with the same physician. I see you are in California, so no parental consent was needed.
So, how much did it hurt? Well I've had three babies, two without any kind of anesthesia and two miscarriages and all of those things were infinitely more painful. I don't think it hurt much more than having period cramps.
I am assuming you are talking about an early abortion in the first 10 weeks of gestation. The abortion itself I thought was very little pain physically, they give you an IM injection or something in the IV, maybe valium or fentanyl, something that makes you a little woozy and relaxed. You may have headphones with music to listen to. The procedure takes about five minutes, the doctor will inject a local anesthetic into the cervix and insert a slim tube. Then he turns on a suction device and the contents of the uterus are sucked into a jar. You may feel some pressure but no pain, kind of like someone is vacuuming your insides.
They may give you some Tylenol afterwards and a few small pills to help the uterus contract and slow bleeding. You may be a little woozy for an hour or so, you need someone to drive you home. You may have some cramping, like a menstrual period. Generally you feel pretty good later that day, just like you have a period. You cannot use tampons, you must use pads. The bleeding lasts about as long as a period. You are supposed to come back in a few weeks for a follow up visit but I never did.
If you want an abortion after 10 weeks gestation, the fetus is larger and the procedure a bit more complicated but still very safe. After 13 weeks I do not recommend and will not discuss how one is done or how to get one.

No not lately but a long time ago. Maybe 5 years ago. It was the suction method. Physically, it felt like I was having a period and during the procedure they dope you up, so you really almost don't know what's happening. I remember trying not to look at the ultrasound when they were looking for the baby. I was 5 weeks along so, I knew it would not be much t see.. but I still couldn't look..I didn't like what I was about to do.. ... Spiritually and psychologically...It hurt a lot... so bad i cried for weeks. Still haven't completely stopped hurting.. and I am a mommy now to a 3 month old beautiful son. I realize he would have a big sis or bro right now. I prayed everynight before and after, still do. I wonder what I will tell that baby when I die and he/she asks me why? If your about to, going to, know someone who wants to... make sure they / you understand.. it's more psychological pain than physical. Your mind and soul will hurt more than your body.Be prepared... it's one thing you can't take back. I wish I hadn't done it, but at the time, I felt I didn't have any other options.Be blessed

Some places you can choose to have medication that makes you sleepy and groggy, it helps with any pain and helps keep you in a state of fog where you tend to forget alot of what went on. When I had one I didn't have the medication because I wanted to drive myself home. The pain is minimal - you get a shot to numb your cervix (not too bad) then they scrap the uterus to remove the pregnancy. On a scale of 1 to 10 with 10 being the most pain I would say that the scrapping is about a 3 or 4 but it is quick and doesn't last long. You have some mild cramping after ward, but over the counter pain reliever helps that alot. I had very little bleeding afterward and actually felt really good. Any and all pregnancy symptoms went away within 24 hours. It really wasn't as bad as I had thought, but make sure you are going somewhere that known for doing this like a Planned Parenthood - you need to proper doctors and aftercare. Good Luck

My sister had an abortion. She said it didn't hurt because they gave her an IV filled with valium and she was like floating. She said she didn't feel much just a little "pressure" and weird sounds. She felt ok afterwards just tired and wanted to sleep off the valium. She had no complications or anything. And a couple years later had a healthy baby boy when she was ready.

Based on their testimony and other testimonies that I've read, yes, it hurts. It hurts the mother and it hurts the baby:

my roommate had one, and she said that it hurt more then anything in the world. she would never do it again. and regrets it because it hurt emotionally but more physically.
also another friend of mine had one 4 years ago, and she said that it hurt so badly she cried for 3 days, and now she is having trouble conceiving a child with her new hubby. and she regrets having it done. she thinks that her not being able to have a baby now is punishment for killing her 1st pregnancy.
