I am a huge Tony fan and really watch nascar only because of the drama he adds. My wife hates him because of that. She is a Dale Jr fan. If she and were diehard nascar fans then we would probably be headed for divorce.

To me he was easy going last season but this season has gotten more agressive starting with the daytona race where he ranted about drivers being safe and then turned around and drove agressively and crashed somebody out of the race.

Bear in mind that if Tony wasn't as talented as he is and acted so agressively he probably would have been fired long before now.

Nascar became popular originally because of the drama. Junior Johnson freely admitted that he learned to drive fast running moonshine and was still wanted in certain counties even as he was famous until he was pardoned by President Reagan in the early 1980's. There were also great rivalries - Cale Yarborough and Richard Petty - which we don't have now.

Nascar's big problem now:
Sponsors control the money and they don't want drivers to "rock the boat" so they discourage aggression/drama. Although if incidents involve competing sponsors (ie Home depot vs Lowes) then they encourgae something more. The drivers rely on sponsors and this won't change but I think that is one problem.

New Tony? Easy going? Huh? Just because he didn't get in any drama the last race? I think he is still the same guy, it's just a matter of if anyone gets into him in a race!

I guess my answer is neither, even though I think it's the same guy!

I have to say I like the new Smoke, if that's how you want to refer to it as. Now, first, he's still the same ole Tony. However, a lot of people really think since his days when he was the top story over an anger issue and now he's changed a lot. He's still got the drive and ambition and the fire inside of him. That's the stuff that got him into trouble. The difference now is he tries not to let everything get under his skin and onto him. I think that's good, b/c I think yeah, not only did it cause problems for him (penalalites and such), but I think it also probably overly stressed him out...and was really draining. So yeah, the fact that he can walk away from a few more things makes for a happier Tony..which is awesome. He can still drive the hell out of the car, and as I said he's still got the passion, drive, and fire inside of him as he did.

Well hasn't he gone from the "old" to the "new" and well on his way back to the "old again? I am a fan of Tony but he needs to practice what he preaches or don't preach at all.

i dont like the new smoke, the old smoke, or any kind of smoke. in my opinion, he is an arrogant, disrespectful, hypocritical driver. i think in order to get respect you have to give it. he wrecks other drivers for no reason, only his own personal 'gain'. i have never heard a positive thing come from this man, hes always sarcastic and nasty when he is interviewed. NASCAR can do without the negative attention....i dont see him bringing anything positive to our wonderful sport.

i hear he does charity work and stuff...but thats the only good ive heard about him. i think he should show a different side to the public, and really change his image.

24 always.

PS im not just saying this b/c im a jeff gordon fanatic. i wouldnt like stewart either way.

I like both Tony's. The old Tony was fiery and angry at all times. It was fun that he was so outspoken, but it got old at times. Now, Tony's just a nice guy. He's easier for people to talk to, and he's calmed down. He doesn't get punished as often as he used to!

Dude what races have you been watching? There is no new Tony Stewart he is the same hotheaded idiot Bully as he always has been. I love the commercial where Mayfield smashes his car.

Old Smoke for sure! Keeps things interesting! I'm sick and tired of everyone having to bite their tongues all the time. I want retaliation!

How about neither Smoke. Is there really a difference between the two?
