Today I am going to get a break from my 16 and 4 month old so I can go to the library. i am realy excited (easily amused) but I have not been keeping up with the times. I like fictional fantasy stories and hate deep love stories. I have read all of Micheal Ende books. For those who dont know He wrote the never ending story. I also Like Political fictions like 1984 but I dont want a book that will take a lifetime to read like the fountain head witch looks like the NYC phonebook. Can anyone give me some ideas. Thanks

theres a book called 'Weaveworld' - not sure of the author but its pretty famous so you should be able to find it - its the best fictional fantasy book ive ever read - and its for adults.. i read it 10 years ago (im 28 now) and i still remember it. its about a fictional carpet world that magic people knit every day - sounds strange but its excellent..

Gregory MacGuire books, Like "Wiked" and "Son of a Witch", they're like fractured fairy tales, which might be fun considering you're a new mom. Also, I couldn't put down "The Lovely Bones" by Alice Sebold its about the murder of a little girl who narrates the tale of what becomes of her family while the police search for her murderer. Also, I loved "The Time Travellor's Wife" but its a bit of a love story, but also a bit sci-fi, its about a man with a time travelling gene who pops up at various points throughout his future wife's childhood. There are about 50 others I could recommend, but those are my top 3 (or 4)!

Fictional fantasy? I love L. E. Modesitt's books; his book series about the Saga of Recluse and the Soprano Sorceress are my favorites. I also like Anne McCaffrey's Dragons of Pern and the Crystal Singer series.

Dragon Lance series, Redwall series, Harry Potter, or Forgetten Realms. All of them are great fantasy books. Take place in the medieval era, exept Harry Potter. Redwall is with animals that talk, sounds stupid, but very cool. And also they are really gripping stories.

"A Spell for Chameleon" by Piers Anthony, part of the Xanth Series. It's a campy "Fantasy" series based around puns ... really amusing series.

If you want a funny book that you can read in short spurts, try "Sex, Drugs and Cocoa Puffs" by Chuck Klosterman, it's a really funny satire on pop culture, you'll laugh your head off.

One of my favorite lines of his: "in and of itself, nothing really matters, what matters is that nothing is ever really in and of itself"
