I assume you mean amending the U.S. Constitution.The positive could also be seen as a negative. Amending the Constitution was set up to be an extremely difficult process. This is why there have been so few amendments throughout history. One positive that I was unaware of is that the President has no role in the amendment process although he would be almost certain to vocalize his support of opposition to an amendment.

postive- it prevents worthless things from being added to the constution and makes sure that most of the nation as a whole agrees with the amedndment
negative-it is diffuclut, the elceotral college will never be taken away because iythe amdentment prosses (was well as the elctroal college) gives little states power that is equakl to big states or is not porpoate to their sizem there for giving some voters who live in wyoming of instance greater power than those who live in CA
