-243z^5

Possibility #1

(-3z)^5

= (-3)^5 z^5

= -243 z^5

Possibility #2

(-3z) = z^5

z^5 + 3z = 0

z(z^4 + 3) = 0

z = 0, or z = (-3)^.25 or z = -(-3)^.25

Note: You may need to rephrase your question for clarity.

I'm gonna guess that you mean (-3z)^5 for any old value of z.

I'm also gonna guess that the Owners Manual for your calculator disappeared the last time you ran out of toilette paper.

OK.... It's ((-3)^5)*z^5 by the laws of exponents so it becomes

-243*z^5 = -243*z*z*z*z*z

If you can't take it from there, you really **really** have some serious problems.
