i just got a new firewall rom zonelab now i cant log into msn messenger what do i do help !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
and have put msn under allowed programs

I use Zone-Alarm free firewall an it is great. Plus it does all the work protecting me against intruders. All I have to do when it is first installed is give permission to ZoneAlarm to allow updates for some programs an outbound requirements related to some software.
Many times I get an error code from MSN Messenger that they are not able to log you in as they are having trouble. I wait a few minutes an I can log in.
If this is not working for you. Try exit MSN Messenger and log back in. If you don't get an error code from Microsoft I would remove the program and reinstall.
This way for sure ZoneAlarm will ask for you to allow.
Don't go back to Windows XP Prof. firewall as it protects you only one way. Traffic coming in and does not protect you as a firewall should in/out.

with or without zonelabs, sometimes msn messenger is often unable to log on for some unknown reason. Just retry it several times, it's not in the fault of Zone Alarm.
AND DON'T USE WINDOWS FIREWALL. Windows firewall is a (very) basic firewall, it hardly protects you at all if you're a frequent user of Internet. And technically, as have been said, Windows Firewall is a one way firewall, which wouldn't prevent a virus from contacting it's host, or a weird program from transferring your bank account to it's creator

Zonee alarm is not a user friendly firewall, if you are using xp just enable it's firewall and be done with it!
