Yes alot of americans like myself are gluttons but most of us do appreciate the fact we were born here. I would not want to be anywhere else and I will work as hard and as long as I have to so I can live good, and live the way I want. We have homless and hungry in this country but I say if you cant make some kind of living here you dont deserve to be here. Send these people to a 3rd world counrty and see how long they last. Most americans have not a clue what it is like to be afraid to die at any moment or not knowing where you will sleep or eat next, this is the west, and the west is the best, so get here and we will do the rest.

I do. I worked as head cook at Juniata College for several years and part of the student awareness program was participating in Hunger week. One week per year the students would study the different cultures of the world. One meal the would sell their meal ticket to a local resident. That student then became part of a group that was divided into representative groups of the world. Some ate little, some had rice, some had rice with a tiny piece of meat or broth, few had a full meal. Those that did represented the top of the food chain, us.
With all the privileges we have, we need to not only be aware of those who don't, but to realize how truly blessed we are.

Most of our success and wealth we enjoy is based on what our grandparents did to make our lives better. It seems like we are enjoying all the riches, but not making sure our own children get to enjoy them as well. Maybe we need to re-evaluate our position and start starving ourselves a little, for the future generations. We'd be healthier and probably a lot happier.

My father runs a chapter of an organization called Family to Family. Every month families around the neighborhood pack up boxes of food and send it to families in a town called Pembrooke, 70 miles south of Chicago. They don't have a bank, supermarket, police force, barbershop, gas station, bookstore, and pharmacy.

Pembroke has no bus or train connection. Its roads are mostly paved with sand or gravel. Many of its homes are crumbling shacks with dirt floors and no running water. Some homes feature tires up top to keep the roof from flying off.

Of course other countries are starving and it's awful. But there are starving people in our country too.

I totally agree. We do have it all. I mean, look at those places over in Europe. They need clean water to drink. Africa---They need more food and many other things besides food. Like nets to protect their beds so the misquetos won't bite. I feel like we need to do something more to help those other people who need food, like you said, there are too many overweight people in America. If you went to Africa, you probably wouldn't see one overweight person, but, they do need more food and clean water. I know that many people are helping people all over the world, providing food and clean water.
My church raises money to buy nets to send to Africa so that the misquetos won't bite them at night. A group of people from my church is going to Africa, and I'm pretty sure they are building a school there. During bible school they asked people to bring in new pairs of flip-flops that will be given to the people that live in Africa. Thise 11 pairs of flip-flops I donated could have changed someone's life.
But in conclusion, you are right. I feel lucky to have food and clan water to drink, but then again I want to help in some way.

That's very true, and it's sad. I do think of that sometimes. But not everyone in America has plenty of food, or shelter. Just most of us do. When I was a kid we were so poor we went without food for days. It was hard. Now I have every thing I need, and yes I do admit I may take it for granted from time to time. Not intentionally, but when you get used to having something you forget how precious it is to you unless you loss it.

I think about it often, seeing how I love to eat, that being about the only thing i can afford to do anymore. Have you ever thought about how many farmers have to grow how many crops to provide all the food we eat? Just take 1 item such as green beans for instance. Look at how many cans of just one brand is on the grocers shelf, then look at how many different brands, and know that his store room has back up stock, then multiply that by just the grocery stores in your town. To feed the nation just on green beans alone is mind boggling.

Honey, that ain't luck. That's a tremendous blessing from God and a helluva lot of hard work by Americans. You'd be surprised out the whazoo to see just how fruitful the rest of the world would be if they'd get off their lazy assses and do some work too, instead of always having their hands out for some welfare in one form or another. God Bless you.

You're right! I'm very grateful to have plenty of food and clean water to drink. I guess we shouldn't complain so much about our weight problem huh?

But at the same time, there are many people within our own country that go hungry far too frequently.
