Palm Pilots can do various things..
some have appointment books so you can write down your meetings & other special dates. You can also set reminders for birthdays & holidays so you do not forget to get a card or present for someone.
They also usually have an address book where you can store phone #'s, addresses & emails.
Some have interent access, like a blackberry where you can actually send & receive emails.

Palm is a brand name, and pilot used to be the name for their products until Palm was sued a few years back and were forced to use a different name.
