It really depends what you're looking for. I have a Maya Wrap ring sling that I used some with a newborn and then a toddler.
I bought a Mama Kangaroo mesh pouch sling last summer when my younger daughter was about 7 months old, and I loved it! (It only cost me about $25 brand new on eBay.) We used it constantly with her riding on my hip, and so many people asked us about it. I could pop her in and out quickly or carry her for longer periods of time, and she'd fall asleep. I liked it better than the Maya Wrap b/c it was a lightweight, stretchy material, it didn't have the extra material that the ring sling has, and I didn't have to constantly readjust it. I used it for about 6-9 months until my daughter was always wanting to walk.
I also bought a Mei Tai sling (aka Asian-inspired baby carrier or ABC) when she was 8 months old that was made by a friend of a friend. That sling is best for carrying baby on your front or back, and I'm still able to carry either my 30-pound 3-year-old or my 25-pound 21-month-old on my back for a fair amount of time. My younger daughter will still fall asleep in it if we're at the zoo or the mall. It takes a little practice to get it on the first time, and it's not easy to pop the baby in and out, so it's better for longer periods of use. I wouldn't trade my Mei Tai for anything.
Good luck finding something you love!

Ergo Baby Carrier.
OK, so the name says baby carrier and not sling, but it's so much better than a Baby Bjorn (which your child has almost out grown..ourd did very fast) and can be worn three different ways. Our baby loves it and it can hold up to 60+ lbs....

MamaMarzipan makes slings in really cool prints, and they are machine washable, totally adjustable, and very durable. They will work for babies/toddlers up to 40lbs. They are all handmade, and the prints are awesome. I highly recommend MamaMarzipan.
