Definitely!! The two characteristics are not mutually exclusive. I think many shy people are quite independent as part of being shy. Being shy can contribute to being independent. Shy people tend to count on themselves rather than on other people.

Yes I think so. In fact I think being shy and independent can go hand in hand. Like a person who is too shy to be close with anyone could learn to help themselves instead of asking for help. They usually find outgoing people unapproachable so they find ways of managing on their own. So, yeah, i can definitely see how someone can be shy and independent at the same time.

Being shy and being independent don't have anything to do with each other, so you can definitely be shy and still be able to make your own choices and march to the beat of your own drum.
