I sound a lot like Bert McCracken when i scream but the regular screaming is kind of weak.

Do not drink milk or eat chocolate before a performance. It leaves a coating in the throat which will affect your singing. The best thing to do is to only drink warm water before you perform.

If you have a chance to join a choir (for a church, school, etc.), you should. Not only would you meet new people who may be able to give you advice on improving your singing, you'd be able to pick up some of the techniques. You will probably encounter a few good examples of singers in this group. Also, you'll learn how to sing as a member of a group and about being in tune if you don't already know that.

EDIT: Ah, that's perfectly fine about the church...I really understand! :) (I'm more of a science nerd myself; so, really I do understand!) I was just trying to think of possible suggestions for where you could sing as a part of a group which may have some talented singers. I am not sure whether you were school age; so, I tried to think of an alternative to a school choral activity. I am sorry that those are the only two I can think of that I know you would have access to for certain, but maybe there is a singing group unique to your area which you may get involved in. Also, some universities allow members of the community to be involved in music groups even if they don't attend that college, but I am not sure whether you've a university in your area. I hope I've given you at least some ideas, and good luck!

Singing is something that everybody can learn and improve. Of course, some are more naturally skilled than others, but even a poor voice can be overcome by dedication, practice, and more practice. Even if you're content to sing in the shower, there are some things you can do to improve your voice. This is probably the best online course to improve your singing skills https://tr.im/jaSVf

I have been singing for a long time. Voice lessons for years have helped tremendously. Yes, you sing songs that may not be like what your band performs, but the things that you learn in lessons will help tremendously. Something that I do before I get up to perform is drink hot tea with honey and lemon in it. NEVER drink cold water before you sing, always drink it warm. This is the best advice i have for now. If you would like to talk sometime IM me at KassyDrew. I'd love to talk more about your band and singing.

i'm the lead vox of my grindcore band Analintrusion. I was inspired by Analcunt (AC) so i scream alot too. I used to smoke 2 packs of Davidoff Magnum a day, which did help but in return it was alot of pain. Hormones won't help either. I started eating more spicy food it really helped but gave me stomach aches. I don't know i just thought about it and me and my own vocal chords worked it out together and things went fine. Now i scream just like the lead of A.C
