Me, being a man and a retired player can tell you this FACT about us men.
If we feel by us doing small things like calling you after a break up at 2am and saying, "CAN I JUST TELL U GOOD NIGHT", would impress you we would do it.
ALL I can say is if you feel he's sincere, you should go with the flow, OTHERWISE let him go.
You still LOVE him, sometimes "one way love", you loving him and he NOT loving you will make you very easy to hurt.
So, be careful!! How about asking him if HE LOVE YOU and WHY? Then listen to his answer.

I'd say its a good sign, but make sure your reasons for breaking up are resolved...absence does make the heart grow fonder but make sure it doesn't over look what issues that broke you two up in the first place...it sounds like he made the first move...its your turn now.....good luck.
