Most shows on TV are fake. This style of show stands out and can be more entertaining. Also, fans can often look at whats being done and can tell that there's a lot of skill involved and crowd involvement... and some characters are really hot (that's important, j/k).
Many fans don't just stick with the WWE. There are plenty of fans for UFC, boxing, football, baseball etc. That's why so many sports figures are found ringside during a show.
WWE takes the place of all the common monotonous crap on TV. I hope that helps!

I actually saw the original UFC PPV back in the early 90's, and that was awesome. I saw the last 15 or 20 minutes of their TV broadcast last Thursday night and could barely keep my eyes open waiting for it to end. It was just two guys looking like they were making out with each other while a couple other guys cheered them on from the sidelines. I didn't see any appeal there. I thought it was quite boring. I'm not saying anything bad about it, I just didn't enjoy it. If someone out there likes it, that's cool with me.
I like watching pro-wrestling better because it's a bit more high paced I think. And back in the 80's and early 90's, I loved listening to the interviews they'd do. I thought it was funny to hear what they'd say about the guy they were in a fued with.
It's only fake in the fact that the final decision of the match is pre-determined. The things they put their bodies through is unbelievable, but quite real. I've seen footage of their training camps (long before the days of "Tough Enough" which was a joke), and it's one of those situations in which only the strong survive. In the days of the WCW Powerplant, they would start with around 250 guys, and by the end of the first day they'd be down to about 50, and by the end of the second day they'd be down to about 25 and by the end of the third day they'd be down to 3 or 4 who would go on to continue the training. It had nothing to do with "being voted off" or anything like that. They all came in thinking all they'd be doing is yelling into a microphone and bouncing around on a trampoline. They didn't know what would really be involved, all the physical things they'd have to go through. The wrestlers actually have a much better chance of getting injured by acting out a fight than the UFC guys do by actually fighting. The ring isn't a trampoline like so many believe it is. Landing on it is like landing on the sidewalk.
I think the reason the majority of the people watch it is for the same reason people watch "Days Of Our Lives" or "As The World Turns" or any of them other soap operas. They tune in each week to see what will happen to their favorite character.

UFC bores me personally. It may be a real sport but the kind of things that happen in wrestling wouldn't happen in a million years in the UFC. Remember how Mike Tyson biting off that dude's ear was such a huge deal? Stuff like that happens all the time in wrestling. Why? Because it's written that way. In real sports there is a very slim chance of something that astonishing happening.
All in all the fact that wrestling is scripted doesn't make me stop watching it anymore than people aren't going to stop watching sitcoms because they are scripted. Most stuff on TV is!

why are there so many soap opera's on TV? Movies, TV shows, etc etc are completely fake yet they sell millions and have huge fan bases. Cartoons are fake and people watch them. It is entertainment, this is built into the name of the company. They aren't trying to hide the fact and have never denied it.
to Januarybaby...WTF are you babbling about?? name 5 people you know that want to think of a WWE superstar as their father, hell... name 1.
it's more the athleticism, the fighting, the blood, the smack talking, ..... go to a major sports bar in this country and see if the people stand up and cheer when their daddy figure comes out? Especially when the average age of viewers was 32.3yrs old.

I watch it once in awhile but its just entertainment. Like going to the movies. Its funny but some of the moves look really cool. And as fake as it is people still get hurt all the time.

First, I do not watch "WWE." However, the basic psychological principle of the overall appeal is based upon same-sex role modeling, whereas young men are forming opinions about themselves and the world in general. And because of the high rate of fatherless homes in the United States and around the world, young men are naturally drawn to WWE and using it as a substitute for the missing male role model in their lives.

It's not ALL fake. Landing on tables, getting hit with chairs and all that flipping around is real. People might be tuning in for the girls and the trash talk too.

It is only fake so no one dies. There is real pain. If you don't land moves right (so that they are fake) you end up with a broken neck like Stone Cold.
