Don't know if you are referring to the name of the company "Akai". If so, from Help.com, from their Primer: List of company name etymologies:

"Akai — technically it means "red" in Japanese, but the Japanese also use it to refer to the color of the rising sun, as seen on the flag of Japan"

i beielve that it is a word in some pafic northwest (washington) indain language. the state motto of washinton is akai akai which means bye and bye. i may be cobnfusing this with aklai.
