the u/s shows clearly it mostly depends on who is reading the ultrasound on how accurate it is

No, they aren't 100% accurate as it really depends on the experience of the technician and the angle they are able to get of the baby. However, with my first after I found out at 19 weeks that it was a boy based on the ultrasound, we went out and registered for boy stuff and bought boy clothes. Sure enough when he was born at 37 weeks, he was a boy! Ultrasounds are usually right in determining gender (especially if done between 17-22 weeks) but they aren't foolproof.

Question: How reliable is ultrasound for predicting a baby's gender? I've heard of mistakes being made!
Answer: By 18 to 20 weeks, your practitioner or technician may be able to identify your baby's gender during an ultrasound. However, your baby has to cooperate! He or she has to be in a position that allows the technician to see the baby's genitals. And even if the technician gets a good view of the baby's genital area, the image may not be clear.
The more experienced the sonographer and the higher the quality of the sonogram machine, the more likely you are to get an accurate prediction. But even the best sonographers can't usually guarantee whether it's a girl or a boy.

i had my big ulstrasound at 20 wks and they said that no matter how the baby was positioned they would be able to determine the gender.
it all depends on the level of ultrasound. my OB does an ultrasound that is very basic and then, the ultrasound i had at 20 wks was a higher level. that's what they used to measure his bones and organs etc....
now, at 16 wks, your baby's sex organ development may not be profound enough to determine the gender. it's a little early. also, it depends on the experience of your ultrasonographer. ours had been in medicine for 40 years and he was VERY good at his job. in fact he was training other people during our ultrasound. he knew just by the size of the baby's hips that it was a boy. then, they looked at the "plumbing" and he was right!
i would say that they are pretty good at their job and they are pretty accurate. however, nothing is ever 100% and therefore you will hear about people's ultrasounds being wrong.....
just go with it and if they can't tell at 16 wks, then ask to schedule one at 20 wks to see the gender!
take care and have fun looking at your baby!

There might be a good chance you can tell but usually sex can be determined between 17 and 21 weeks. I know when I had my ultrasound July 10th, there was no doubt that there was a penis on my little boy, showed up perfectly clear on the display.

Depends on how quickly the baby is moving. Sometimes they can't get an accurate answer because the baby is moving so quickly. If they tell you its a boy generally that is unmistakable. You, yourself will be able to see its penis on the screen. If they say its a girl, this can be unreliable as the penis can be "hiding" between the legs.
I knew mine was a boy as soon as I saw him. His penis was stuck right up in the air. I was embarrassed cos my grandma was there at the time! lol

try to wait until 20 weeks that is when I waited until and it was very clear. I was told I was having a girl the o/s tech said she was sure. At 30 weeks I did go to a 3-d u/s not for gender but I really wanted a dvd of my child in my stomach, it is swuch a wonderful experience. They again told me I was having a girl the 3-d u/s was able to show her pelvic bone alot clearer and my worries of them possibly being wrong have vanished

Contrary to what they say, it is not always accurate. A friend of mine had an ultrasound and they said she was having one boy. She gave birth to twin girls!

At 16 weeks its probably a 60% accuracy and at 20 weeks its about 80%. Doctors can usually tell but there are always cases of "mistaken identity"
