Who plants the garden? Whoever does should be the one planting it on the day they want to. I always plant my garden after Easter and I have a plentiful garden...Of course it could be where you live and I live in Ca. so the weather stays basically warm all year round. My father always went by the Almanac { farmers } but with all this globe warming who knows anymore!!! Good luck and I hope I did not start a fight.....

I WISH questioners would tell us what growing zone they live in! It makes all the difference, especially with questions like this one!

In central Maine we can plant peas as soon as the frost is out of the ground. Other cold-hardy crops can go in in late April. The bulk of the garden goes in on the last weekend in May, and we hold off on basil until mid-June when the ground is warm enough. I've seen a killing frost as late as June 6. So much depends on your location and last frost date...and of course global warming is changing all that as I type....

If it works, then she's not wrong.

You want it earlier, you plant it.

(Then you have to wait and see if you get a late forst)

Some plant you can plant early, some want the soil to be good and thouroughly warm before they'll do their thing - so it probably depends on what she's planting. (If it's corn, beans and squash things, she's right - If it's peas, kale and radishes, neither of your are right - because they can go in by April)

The person who does the actual work is the one who's right! If you want it done May 15 to May 20 you should damn well get out there and do it yourself!

rakisup,
You need to tell people what state/city you live in. You could live in Alaska for all I know!
