RIght now I would recommend that you wire for a 7.1 Dolby surround system.

To do this, you will need to have a place for speaker of course in front and to the front left and right.

Speakers to the left and right of the seating area.

Speakers to the left and right behind the speaker area.

And one subwoofer pretty much anywhere in the room. (your ears cannot distinguish where the low sounds come from)

Wire size really depends on wattage but using 14 GA wire will be fine for almost ANYTHING you can afford for a residential system. Anything bigger is a total waste of money.

So from where your surround receiver will be sitting (I like Onkyo receivers) run the two rear wires to the location the speakers will be. You can make a wall plate or just leave them in a hole in the wall.

Do the same thing for the speakers to the left and right of the seating area.

Usually, the subwoofers are selfppowered and you will run a shielded RCA cable from the receiver to it. Make sure where it is has a regulare power outlet next to it as well.

The front speakers- left center and right can usually be wired without PRErunning anything.

It is pretty easy and when you buy your receiver it will give you the instructions too.

BTW- Circuit City has an Onkyo system with Pole speakers on sale right now. My father just bought it and it is a pretty good deal for a moderately priced system

this is very hard question...every amp is different! i have 2 systems in my house, 1 on the upstairs main 50" and a media room downstairs....both wire totally different....the only thing that is the same is the 2 back speakers, then 2 front speakers, and one center speaker and 1 or 2 floor bass speakers....ur system is either: 5-1 or 6-1 or 7-1 ratio......5 is 5 speaker, 6 is speakers and 7 is 7even speaker( 2 bass)
