I heard a nascar driver's name and it was something like "Richard Trickle", which if you shorten the first name to "Dick" sounds really messed up. Do parents think about how their kid's name sounds before signing the birth certificate?

I know his name is Dick Trickle, I just didn't want some idiot to report me for saying the two together.

Just because I find it odd that someone would name their child Dick Trickle doesn't mean I need to grow up. Forty year olds giggle at it all the time. You must admit, it is strange his parents would name him that.

Some parents are screwed up. My wife went to school with a girl named Candy Kane. She ended up marrying a guy named Clark Bahr. I am NOT making this up.

Actually he does go by Dick. Dick Trickle is a great racer. However, I do think the parents were messed up for naming him that, unless it's some sort of family name. However there are worse names out there. But probably only a few that are funnier.
A former coworker said he met a guy who always went by his initials. The initials were TJ. This guy was like 70 something and all his life went by TJ. No one knew his real name. Finally my coworker, who himself was in his late 50's got it out of him. This guys Mom named him Tomato Jalapeno. How's that for a name!

Dick Trickle is what they call him. I often wonder about people and what they are thinking. It is like Tommy thompson or johnny johnson. When you have a child you try to think of every nickname that a kid could be called to make sure everything flows.
I went to school with a girl.... Anita Head. No Lie!

I've seen and heard a lot of odd names...
I don't think that all parents properly think out the consequence of giving their child a certain name. Or if they do, they just like the name and don't care what others say.
At times, they are also just translations of the names from whatever language into English. It might not be odd or bad in their native language, but it is once it's translated into English.

In my area, there's a girl who's name is Female, pronounced as "Feh-molly". Her parents looked at the birth certificate and thought the nurse had written Female as the child's name, and decided to stick with it. Now, a while back I read that this was dismissed as just an urban legend, but see... I've actually met the girl (she's now a teenager). Imagine if she'd been a boy...

lmao - ol' dick trickle is something of a legend down here in Nascar country. I think everybody knows him - even folks who don't follow racing!! (as I do not!) but that's just the way it is. Yes, his mama should have been slapped for doing such a thing to her child!!! I would have no problem being the person to slap stupid parents, believe me! Good question - you made me smile!

Maybe they were hoping he'd be smart enough to avoid shortening his name to "Dick"! I mean come on, who REALLY chooses to go thru life with that name. Or maybe it's a stage name, of sorts, and his parents named him John Smith.
FYI, I thought about my daughter's name a lot before I gave it to her. She's about to get married and screw it all up, but I gave her a name that allowed her initials and her nickname to be the same.
I once worked with a guy by the name of Arlie C. Marley III...You don't suppose the "C" stands for Charlie, do ya? You'd think that the poor guy's dad would have sat thru enough teasing that he'd have avoided it for his own kid!

Richard was a very popular name in the fifties and Dick was one of the nicknames for this name. Today's slang has kinda made the word sound bad but they didn't think it was at the time.
