I bought a mattress from Costco and it was two pieces... the bottom box spring set and then the mattress. My bed is really low and it looks funky with both of these, so I gave away the bottom box spring and just use the mattress. I should've asked this before, but is there any advantage to using a box spring other than adding height? I hope I didn't lose back support by using the mattress without it. Thanks a lot in advance!

Well, you sort of answered your question the more description you presented. The manufacturer of the mattress puts a great deal of effort in the final product that ends up in stores. They don't just throw in a box spring for good measure. No pun intended. They do, however design the box spring to complement the mattress. The box spring serves to provide the necessary support the mattress requires. I would find a mattress retailer and order the box spring to match your mattress.

Sleep well,

A mattress gets a large percentage of its life from the box spring. It's like its shock absorber. It gives your bed some give, which is good for it. You could use a 3/4" piece of plywood in place of the box spring if you want your bed to sit lower, but again, it will feel firmer.

The box spring supports you, and gives longer life to the mattress. But since you no longer have it, use hard material, such as Plywood, or OSB. Get enough to completely cover the frame, not just part of it.

Oops! You should have kept that!!! You will have less support but you'll be fine, unless you have back problems.
