I've only had the pleasure of meeting one goth. And he turned out to be one of my closest friends. Anytime I needed him he was there. Once when my husband got out of hand, he came to my rescue and even told my husband if he were to ever lay a hand on me he would kill him.
Afraid of them, no. Missing him in my life now, yes.

I mainly think its the dark clothing and not mainly that look at some of the goth guys out there they were eye liner. Most people go by the books cover they dont want to see whats on the inside because just b y the dark clothing they think they might be into witch craft or believe in a different god. I have a step brother who is gothic and he is nice but does a lot of drugs and can't keep a job. so if someone where to meet him then go and meet another person who was gothic they wouldn't want to get to know ther person due to the fact they think gothic dresses people are all alike which is never true.

Okay, I don't know anybody who is afraid of Goths. Rather, Goths have a bad imagine. Traditionally they stand against society; against the rules of society. Against the law and against authority.

Now, I'm not saying all Goths do, just that they traditionally have. And there's a problem with that. There's a problem with anarchy. Let's examine what that problem is.

Without rules, people would do whatever they want. There'd be no consequences for their actions. Murder: okay. Rob: okay. Steal: okay. Go stab, shoot, rape whomever you want. That's what anarchy is. Now, anarchy may not support murder, rape, etc., but it doesn't have any solutions for that either. Because if you start to regulate it, if you start to put an end to such behavior, well, that goes contrary to anarchy. Anarchy wants no authority. to regulate anything means that someone/something has authority.

Now, people don't fear Goths. But you have to understand that when people see Goths, they think along the lines of what I've just described. Sorry, but I don't want a Goth working for me. Why? Because if a person is Goth, it means they don't have the intelligence to understand why authority is needed, why rules and laws are needed. Employers want people who are going to show up on time, people who aren't going to question the rules, etc. Questioning some rules is okay, but questioning all rules isn't. Goths traditionally don't understand that.

So, understand that it's not fear: it's that people just don't want to deal with those who have a problem with authority. And for good reason.

People are usually afraid of something they don't understand, especially if they listen to rumors or if they stereotype people. For example, the Goth stereotype is that "all Goths are either devil-worshippers or into witchcraft." Not true, but some people believe it. Then you get the people who like to put them down because they wear dark clothing, black make-up, and usually have body piercings. They criticize Goths for not being "normal" without acknowledging the fact that it takes a lot of guts to look and dress like that when you KNOW people are going to criticize you for it. Guess it all boils down to ignorance...can't always judge a book by its cover, you know.

I'm not too sure where you got the idea of people being "afraid" of 'Goths'... I don't know anyone that is afraid of them, I'm not and don't see why someone would be.

If anything, people tend to make fun of someone that claims to be Goth (Goth isn't just about dressing in all black)... Either because they just don't want to accept someone that is different or because it's some 15 year old that wants to try and be "rebellious" by wearing all black and painting their fingernails black or some other crap....

No offense to anyone that is Gothic.. Real Goths, I mean.

*mumbles*

I don't know anyone who is AFRAID of them, but some people get annoyed. It's really stupid that they do. They're all "Why are there so many goths in school?? It's so annoying!" Just let people be already! Honestly, people are just people. There's this one girl named Lenore who is goth, I don't like the way she dresses but she has a BEAUTIFUL singing voice and she's pretty cool.

people as a whole tend to avoid things they dont understand. i have no fear of goths; the ones i have met have made a point of doing it to be different and freak people out. i dont get how looking the same as each other is "being different" and how it can freak anyone out to see someone piercing/tattooing/etc when these arts have been practiced for eons.

if theyre so cutting edge/hard core, how come theyre dressed just like my husband in pics we have from the 80s? :)

peoples minds tend to go overboard when they see someone who appears different; maybe they are thinking your friends all are marilyn manson wannabes who are going to steal their children away in the night, or pull an ozzy and bite the head off a bat/dove/, or something like that.

People aren't necessarily afraid of "goths."
They just think they're odd I guess.
If you don't dress neat, in bright colors, people tend to think you're the wrong type of person. They probably think that "goths" are associated with people who do things like vandalism, theft, so on and so forth.
Basically because they don't walk around singing about shiny happy people holding hands.
They don't fit into the mold.
So they frown upon them.

Because they aren't even good enough to be "normal" kids so they dress it shitty black clothing, wear ugly makeup that makes them look even uglier than they already are and, stuff their face with food untill they resemble a beached whale. Most of them are needy people who cling onto each other for emotional support only to stab each other in the back and go cling onto someone else. Also, they listen to **** music that even the scene kids can frown at. So pretty much, it's because they're social rejects that noone ever wanted around, who don't accept the fact that they aren't "special" and, live parasitic/destructive lives.

I'm not afriad of them (I actually think they're kind of lame), I even had a few goth friends back in the day, who were always talking about death, the grim reaper, and wicca. I think most people were afraid of them because they thought that they would shoot up the school or something.
