If you have used your LCD HDTV as a PC monitor, then is the picture as crisp as a real monitor in the same resolution? I am planning to buy a HDTV and use it as a PC monitor, and most of the time, I work with Borland Delphi which has small fonts. Should I buy a LCD TV or go for a real monitor instead? (Please answer this question ONLY if you have tried it yourself).

Let me tell you, an LCD HDTV in place of a monitor is pure gaming and entertainment bliss. The picture is crisp and colour reproduction excellent with very reasonable response times (depends on LCD I suppose), but for all this to happen you need a high end graphics accelerator, because that's the reason most problems occur for users who try HDTVs with PCs.
However since it seems you'll be in a developing environment I doubt it'll be the best solution, some apps go crazy with widescreen mode so careful with that one. If you really want it though, consider something less than 30 inches.

I have used my HDTV as a monitor before but I had issues..

My TV supported 1024x768 resolution only, for vga/dvi inputs. Also, the aspect ratio was not the same as my monitor. The image was stretched wider then it should have been. The resolution was not too bad, but I couldn't get over the stretched image. And no, it was not simply a matter of turning off the wide image... none of the image scaling options were available on the PC inputs...

But, this was on my TV which is 2 years old. Maybe they got better PC support on current TVs?

I would go with a real monitor. I have connected to my HD projection TV and my laptop does not have native resolution for it so the picture is a bit fuzzy. I can calibrate it to look pretty good but not as good as my laptop screen. I do like to do it to watch movies on sometimes though. Just my 2 cents.
