Mine skips on the vid sequeces too, have had it since release date it doesn't seem to affect the games so I put up with it, so as long as you can live with the skipping the gameplay won't be affected.
I just can't be bothered waiting for a replacement.

To answer your question i would say that It is overheating, that would be my guess. Microsoft was in such a hurry they didn't even think about overheating as something that might happen. Overheating has been the #1 problem with the 360, they even had a recall when it first came out because the electric cords overheated and caught fire, also games freezing up after long use is a concern as well. Plus it is made in America and everyone knows that the best electronics come from Japan, china and Taiwan.

The cooler a piece of electronic equipment is, the faster. When it heats up it slows down, and after running for a while, it will get hot. If you turn it off for a few minutes when it starts doing that it will be fine, but you will want to
Move the console to a more ventalated area, which could lower the inside temperatures some.
Or you could buy a the special extra fan that fits on the Xbox. If you get one of these it should lower the CPU and GPU temperature, and will solve most of your problem... if indeed the problem is heat.

The 360 does have drive problems now and then, but in this situation, you should blame EA. Madden sucked even before they bought out the contract for all NFL licenses for video games, and this is just one of their many flaws. Take Two had a much better product and EA got real scared. So blame EA.
