Okay, I know this sounds gross and all, but I believe a true friend is someone you can fart in front of wholeheartedly. I define being truly in love with someone based on similar qualifications.
Really, though, you know you love your family, right? And you can fart in front of them without hesitation most of the time 'cause you know that they still love you and won't leave you 'cause you're gross or something. A good friend should be someone you don't have to fear being 100% yourself in front of, even when it comes to bodily functions. Lolz.
Now and then,
the Gibbler

A real friend is hard to find. This person has to be someone who would be willing to:
- put their own agenda aside and listen to you without judgment
- be interested in you enough to spend some time with you on a regular basis. It doesn't have to be much time and you don't have to actually do anything or talk about anything important
- be open about their own feelings, thoughts and problems, but not demand all of your time and attention
- admit it when they made mistakes
- be respectful and call ahead before they came over for a visit (unless it was a big emergency)
- ask for your help if they really needed it, but not just forget about you if you asked for some small favor
- talk to you openly about any self-destructive behavior either you or your friend have
- ask insightful questions, not prying ones
- make an honest effort at keeping the friendship going even if your friend's or your spouse or lover tred to stop it
- not gossip about you or tell other people about your personal business
- accept your boundaries
- not insist that his or her friendship is an unlimited license to trash you and other people you care about
- be strong and not care if other people didn't approve of the friendship

To me a friend is someone who meets the following criteria, and I mean this in a sense of feeling and actions, not just in words:
- u share a bond with a person, no particular reason why, u just do
- u trust them, they trust you - whole heartedley
- while u would miss them, u can not talk for days, weeks even years, and yet pick up exactly where u left off upon your next contact
- u are happy for them when they succeed, even if it is in something that u personally failed at
- when u'r world falls apart they are there to help u pick up the peices, no matter how inconvenient it is for them and they never say I told u so (at least not until u r healed).

Well what a friend really means to me is...someone who you can rely on at all times and they rely on you. It also means someone who helps you and talks to you to get the hard and emotional times. And definately someone who buys you gifts for no apparent reason or takes you out to lunch! So there are a lot of things a friend could be but that is what i think a friend is!

A friend is someone that will be there through thick and thin no matter what, someone who will "try" not to hurt you intentionally, someone who will drop what they are doing when you need them. A friend will say "No, you are not crazy, you're just over excited, a friend is someone who will not put you in harms way, but jump in front of it to save you. A friend is someone who was there before you hit it big and ask for nothing when you do. If you have a friend like this you are lucky because it is rare.

Someone who really likes you for WHO you are no matter your bad qualities, they would even know those bad qualities and not let it color the perpective that they know about you.
They will be honest about things and would back you up if you ever needed help. Saddly there are not that many people out there like that.
It takes trust and understanding plus having many things in common to have great conversations too. A person who values your opinion and doesn't critize you for your thoughts.
Also a person that doesn't try to control your life. If you are ok in where you are at in life, lets you be and is happy for you.

Someone who will walk beside you and stand by your side no matter what. A true friend will do their best to understand you and not judge you. They will give you the shirt off their back if need be. A friend is someone who walks in when all the world walks out.

Someone who likes you just the way you are..
Stands by you through the tough times...
Trusts you and loves you...
Would never lie to you or betray you or belittle you...
Supports your dreams and interests...
Is there when you need them...
Knows and understands you well enough to guide you when you are not being true to yourself...
Laughs with you not at you...
Doesn't mind when you cry...
Knows when you need your space...
Is never negatively competitive or jealous of your job, other friends or family...
Is always good for a hug, a beer, a meal, a crash pad, and a smile...:)
And you can do all these things for them in return and it's just understood....
