Does anyone know how to find companies that will send sewing projects to your home for embroidery or assembly and pay you for it?

My mother did it for a while, It was very tedious and the effective hourly rate was pretty low but I would still like to know where these places are. I've searched for this on the web resulting in nothing but scams.

Thanks.

JoAnn fabric stores keep Resource Binders for local seamstress's. Just take a flyer, business card or index card with your contact information and what type of sewing you do on it to your local JoAnn's or try another fabric store. JoAnn's does not charge you for this service. Just a benefit for the guests.

I've actually seen folks offering their services on EBay for quilting. They advertise a "buy it now" price for the labor to finish a quilt (do the backing) if the person sends them the finished quilt-top, batting material and fabric for the backing. The "buy it now" price included shipping costs to return the item.

It's worth a shot. Perhaps you can also advertise through your church bulletin or community classifieds through the local paper?

I believe in many States it isn't legal because it is very difficult to track labor and comply with minimum wage laws. You might try some crafting sites...about.com/sewing, or needlework. Or you may have to go outside the U.S. to find this kind of work.
