"I was curious about giraffes too! I have never heard one make a sound. So I checked with the Montgomery zoo, and the veterinarian said that although giraffes are very quiet animals, they do on occasion make a quiet "bleating" sound, like a young calf or sheep." got that from a website

hard to tell. I'm 6'6" and everything they say goes over my head! kidding.....lol
Very gentle and graceful animals. I once had the opportunity to hand feed a baby giraffe and he was amazingly friendly. Even followed us around as we walked outside his huge pen. He and his 15" mom made a very soft bleating sound like a sheep might. His dad was 18' feet tall!

I saw a special on the Discovery Channel or Animal planet a couple of months ago about giraffes. They were thought to be mute, but they found out that giraffes do make a sound but it is above our hearing range. They had to have special recorders to detect it.

I didn't think they made a noise, but I saw them on the Discovery channel making this high pitched grunt sound... kinda hard to describe phonetically...

When we were at DisneyWorld this spring, we saw a Lion King show and required audience participation. They told us that girraffes bleat like sheep.

er . . . . do you mean giraffes?
If so, they make the most terrible and frightening noise.
No, really, it is one of the loudest sounds known to man on this planet (not counting his wife nagging him)
Trouble is, the sound has to travel so far up that neck - that by the time it reaches the mouth, all we have left is a little squeek!
Shame, huh?

giraffes make the occasional bleat as well as the pleeding eyes when you go near them also the occassional thankful eyes when you let them wrap their tounge around your hand to eat any food left lying around like a dog these eyes are very hard to resist
