OK you have to take what you read on the internet and understand that it's different than normal discussion.
People feel they are safe behind their computer monitors and ids that don't imply what there name is so they feel they can say whatever they want with no filter. Kind of the same way you will have a very nice person who drives very aggesively because they feel untouchable in their car.
Then add some group of people that will say just about anything just to see if they can get a rise out of people and the problem seems even worse than what it really is.
Most people would not speak like they do on the internet if they were in a croud of real people. They would either not talk at all or they would filter their opinions to try harder not to be as offensive.
So it doesn't make it better but it's probably not as bad as you perceive.

You can thank political correctness for the extreme views on the internet. If people could say anything they wanted in school or the workplace or in the media, they would be able to better guage when they have crossed the line. So, instead you have people that bite their lips all the time until they get on the internet a voice an extreme opinion.
MLK dream was for people to be judged by the content of their character rather than the color of their skin. Yet, many blacks think his dream is about specifically advancing the black agenda. Kind of like Mayor Nagin's desire to have a chocolate city.

There's racism towards all groups on here, and yeah, I don't get it either. I guess people just want to use this site as their soap box to stand up on and proclaim that *so and so* group of people sucks. Racism is rampant towards all groups, and it's pretty screwed up. I'm white, but I've got friends from other groups, I think it's stupid to discriminate.
MLK's dream has been realized a bit, without that things would be even worse. A lot of people are still racist, but at least their not as vocal about it... just on the internet where they can hide behind their computer.

100% of the world population is racist in some form or fashion. This includes you and all the other people who think they are above it. It is how the human brain works to keep us alive.
World peace will not exist so long as man is flesh. MLK was a good man with good intentions, but his message tickled a lot of deaf ears.

Well, I'm all for the dream.
But the situation for blacks in america is odd, and sad.
Black kids tend to act worse. Sorry, because it was my people who set this situation up. But now, when a white man claims that a black kid is more likely to be a criminal, he's right. Also, poor, uneducated kids rarely make good arguments; being poorly educated will do that! So the cycle continues, with no end in sight....maybe 100 years'll change something.

Racists in the real world do not air their views publicly though fear of a backlash.
I think that because of the nature of the Internet nobody really knows who you are so racists feel free to air their views anonymously. That is what attracts them.

it usually comes from people who either already have prejudices and can not accept anyone different from themselves and the people who have been victimized by these racist @ssholes. I know that it has been my personal experience to recieve some pretty low blows from the white majority. and it has made me bitter against most, if not all of them. I just feel (personally) that, no matter how much "they" claim to NOT be racist...they really are...oh well, one bad apple DOES ruin the whole bunch

Unfortunately, Stereotyping and Discrimination are things that our brains do automatically. The brain automatically categorizes everything we see, which makes it easier to identify, understand and remember. While this makes it much easier to process the insane amount of information we are faced with every second, it also has drawbacks.
We categorize ourselves and everyone else we see. No matter how mature or enlightened you are, you will tend to favor the people you placed in your own category.

There will never be peace, and there will always be racists, its just human nature. Some people realize that it is wrong, and act accordingly. some people follow their instincts. i will say though that these instincts are stronger in some people than they are in others. But everybody has discriminated against someone else in their life at some time

racism is borne of ignorance and a desire to elevate oneself above others. pride, greed, selfishness, these are all things that contribute to racism. stereotyping individuals based on the actions of others of their race is the easy way to deal with a lot of what's going on in this world, so laziness also plays a part. this website has been a failure almost from its inception due the lack of moderation. it seems to attract the trashiest of the web's inhabitants (present company excluded, of course) and nothing short of charging for admission to this site is going to change that.
